Cruisers from Canada discover the true meaning of Southern Hospitality
Tucked away along the miles of waterway on the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW) we discover more than just winding salt-water rives, sounds and bays full of nesting Osprey. We left Fort Pierce, Florida on May 7th aboard our 65 foot trawler on the way back from winter in the Bahamas to our home port in Toronto. What we discovered along the way is a little piece of heaven in coastal South Carolina and the meaning of true Southern Hospitality. We arrived at Osprey Marina, nestled among trees on Friday May 13th for a one night layover and three days later we are still there.
When we arrived we were greeted at the dock by the helpful staff who took our lines and welcomed us. The staff left a golf cart near our boat so that we could use it to go to the marina office to check in rather than walking. Once we arrived at the marina office we were greeted with bright smiles and a welcome bag with gifts including cheese and crackers along with flyers with local information. When I asked about taking my bike to ride to a store nearby for bread and milk, I was offered by Miss Denise to use her car. Now you don’t get that hospitality in Florida, New York or Toronto. Being in the tourist industry, we operate a boat bed & breakfast in Toronto (www.boatel.ca), we strive to impress our guests with that same hospitality that we have received here! We will be posting pictures and a full story in our travel/cruising blog.
